About the role

NHS Professionals International provides individually tailored support to ensure you have the best possible experience coming to live and work in the UK and becoming an Allied Health Professional.

As an ODP, you’ll provide high standards of skilled care and support during each phase of a patient’s perioperative care - anesthetic, surgery, and recovery. You’ll work in the surgery team and manage the preparation of the operating theatres. You'll also be the link between the surgical team and other parts of the operating theatre and hospital.

Some duties may involve:

  • Preparing a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anesthetic machines, intravenous equipment, and devices that safely secure the patient's airway during anesthesia as well as equipment for surgery, including microscopes, lasers, and endoscopes
  • Acting as a link between the surgical team and other parts of the theatre and hospital
  • Anticipating the requirements of the surgical team and responding effectively
  • Supporting and monitoring the patient on their arrival into the recovery unit
  • Providing appropriate treatment until they have recovered from the effects of the anesthesia and/or surgery
  • Assessing the patient so they can be discharged back to a ward

To apply for this post, you will be/have:

  • Either a Registered Anaesthetist Technician or ODP or equivalent in your country of residence
  • 6-12 months of hospital experience as an Anaesthetist Technician or ODP in your country of residence

Preferable but not essential:

  • Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
