About You
So what qualities does a Yoga Instructor need to join Virgin Active?
- You have an accredited 200hour Yoga Teaching Qualification.
- You can coach and motivate our members in your Yoga classes

- You ensure our members are safe at all times and hold your own public liability insurance of at least £2million
- You check in with the club team often and always keep up to date with class policies and instructor procedures

We are currently seeking a Group Exercise Manager who will be integral in our mission; to be the Third Space for our members and inspire them to live their lives be their personal best.
We are looking for a world class group exercise leader to run our busy group exercise programme at our fabulous club in Soho. The club boasts 3 beautiful studios, one of the most diverse offerings in a fantastic location.
In this role, you will work with a team of extraordinary Group Exercise Instructors, Master Trainers, Lead Instructors and Senior Instructors. You’ll be committed to supporting our members to be their personal best and so continuously strive to offer the best exercise classes which London has to offer; from Yoga, to HIIT and Boxing, allowing members to sweat it out in whichever way they choose!
Whilst reporting to the General Manager, you will need to work closely with the sales and operations team and our central Group Exercise team to deliver our brand standards and excellence as well as assist with any Marketing/PR and special events.
The successful candidate will also need to hold workshops and coaching sessions for internal team members, such as the sales and fitness team, so that the benefits of Group Exercise are widely known, understood and correctly promoted.
Last but not by any means least, you will also be required to conduct and deliver our group exercise classes to our members in a professional and friendly manner; living and breathing our Third Space values.
About you:
- Expertise and Passion – You’re a fitness enthusiast and you’ve extensive experience and qualifications in Group Exercise and/or Personal Training
- Leader – you’re a born leader and can demonstrate how you’ve managed, motivated, developed and retained people in previous roles
- Member Focused - You’re able to listen and empathise with a diverse range of customers and will have strong examples of how you’ve managed member expectations and resolved issues and complaints
- Commerciality - You think commercially and you’ve experience of resource allocation and budget management
- Flexible – our Group Exercise offering is available 7 days a week and you’ll need to be prepared to work some unsociable hours and weekends, as well as be available to travel to industry related events.

Hours: 12 per week.
Reporting into the Wellness Suite Manager, responsibilities will include:
- Assist with the implementation of the group exercise instructor training programme
- Be involved in Wellness Centre events
- To work with colleagues in producing a full and varied programme of events which will be customer led across the village
- Planning and facilitating stimulating activities, promoting independence and choice to meet customer needs
- Controlling and maintaining the stock of activities equipment, materials and resources within a given budget
- Compliance with internal and external regulatory standards
- Reporting incidents of non-compliance with financial policy and escalate any concerns as appropriate
Essential Qualifications:
- REPS Level 3 recognised Personal Trainer Qualification or Advanced Fitness Instructor
- Group exercise qualification e.g. Exercise to Music, Pilates, Yoga, Dance, Aqua Aerobics etc.
- Nutrition and client appraisal/health screening
Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience of working in a health & wellbeing environment including facilitating activities/workshops
- Experience of working with older people
- First Aid certification
- Qualification in teaching exercise and fitness to older adults, qualification in GP exercise referral or rehabilitation programmes
- Pool Plant qualification
- Pool responder qualification
Please note: You have to work well as a team, to have various experience in a fitness environment, to be able to take a varied amount of session with a group of people over 65+. Preferred to have experience with swimming pool and spa suite pump rooms. Pool Testing experience. A knowledge of Pool responder course.

- Support the partnership between University of Glasgow Sport and Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA) through working with the GUSA President and GUSA Welfare convenor to deliver a series of student welfare events.
- Provide guidance and support to GUSA welfare convenor by regularly meeting and discussing events supporting different campaigns. Support and promote the running of GUSA ‘Gym Buddies’ initiative, work with GUSA Welfare Convenor to design and promote events around Exam Destress and Fresher’s Week Campaigns. Proactively engage and communicate with UofG Staff and Students through presentations and outreach events which develop and improve physical health and mental wellbeing.
- Monitor, review and evaluate quality of service and customer satisfaction within work area.
- Discussing findings and suggesting recommendation for improvements with UofG Sport, CAPS and GUSA as appropriate.
- Support Active Lifestyle colleagues by contributing towards the evaluation of the service programme to ensure it meets and the needs of its wide customer base and aligns with the UofG Sport strategy.
- As directed by the Active Lifestyle Manager support designated aspects of the UofG Sport service programme, this includes timetabling and other designated areas of responsibility within the Active Lifestyle and sport areas.
- Play a role in being the promotional interface for UofG Sport and GUSA internally and externally to the University. This includes being involved in Open Days, Fresher’s week other promotional events.
- Ensure personal teaching standards and knowledge of new developments is kept up-to-date. This includes a commitment to maintaining high standards of delivery and a high level of continuing professional development.
- As directed by the Active Lifestyles Manager and GUSA President, establish, maintain and develop links with key internal and external departments and organisations that will allow added value and quality to the UofG Sport service provision and programme. These include, but are not limited to, Sport Health and Exercise Science related departments, various University faculties, Corporate Communications, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Scottish Student Sport (SSS) and SportScoltand.
